When a foreigner is looking for something on the map, we will ask "May I help you ?"
That may be seen as meddling, but it is the job of a Good Will Guide.
We would like foreigners to enjoy their stay in Japan.
For that, we have to speak foreign languages, but we don't have to have a high ability in languages.
Anybody who can speak at a conversational level can be a Good Will Guide.
There are a lot of volunteer interpreters who are active all over Japan.
